Naughty Blogger

Oh my! What have I gone and done? It’s been over a month since I’ve posted. How will i ever get readers this way?

Trust me, i’ve been blogging – just not actually writing it down! I’m constantly thinking “Oh i should blog about that” and then… ya Nada.

Excuse #1 – I work on a computer alllllllll day. When i come home, i want to do mindless things on a computer. Like read my blogs, trashy celeb sites and play with my photos.

Excuse #2 – Life is busy! I seriously don’t know how people do so much.. I find i’m recently having a hard time just keeping up cleaning my house.  How do people have kids on top of that??? It seems by the time i get home from work, eat dinner and dink around on the computer for a while it’s time for bed! Where does the day go?

In January of this year we started on a fairly decent kitchen remodel.

Well, tonight after coming home from work i decided our kitchen reeeally needed a good cleaning. (nothing funner on a friday night!)  Since I did a most excellent clean on the kitchen i figured i should take some “after” pictures. I was pretty diligent about taking the before and in-progress picks. It would be a real shame if i didnt take any finished shots.

Ive posted them on flickr, if you just can’t wait. But i’m determined to blog about the remodel with pics this weekend!

One Year Ago…

One year ago today I was here…

Doing this…

and these people were there…

and everyone looked so cute. Including my mom, she looked amazing.

and it was HOT…I let Erin drive my car since i was wearing this…

and she couldn’t figure out how to run the air conditioning and she had a lead foot on my touchy gas pedal. So we sweated and bounced around the whole way here…

and then we ran into these guys…

They totally classed it up and went to McDonalds.  Look at Mikey, he even got a haircut for the event. Yes, the guy with the shaggy hair had just gotten a haircut.

There were a lot of us in a small hotel room, and it was still hot and the girls kept turning the music up. I started to get a little overwhelmed and kept turning it down. It all started coming together, it was real. Then the maid of honor made me do this…

08h080but soon enough they were helping me do this …

and before we knew it we looked hot… 08h114

Including my dad! He looked so handsome …

and meanwhile those guys were doing their thing too… word on the street is that they even got my dad to partake.

Then it was time to go… careful not to run into those boys.

I waited in front of the A/C for my turn to meet that one boy in particular.

But then I did, and it was great. He looked so cute, and I have to say – I think he was impressed with my cleavage. It was new for me, special bras are great.

then apparently I  grabbed his ass

and my girls were busy picking up programs that had blown away in the wind….But again, they seriously looked hot in their “Wild Orchid Wonder”

and the boys were having fun too…

I think they were telling him what a great decision he was making. Yep, yes i’m sure of it.

and then we did a lot of boring posed shots with family, etc etc. But we did some silly ones too…

I apparently played my bouquet like a musical instrument

But dang, check out that weather and the view. We couldn’t have asked for more.

and meanwhile, a lot of other really important people were running around getting things set up. Because true it was important that we looked good, it was also important that this stuff looked good. And it did! It looked really good… I was very happy.

and lets have a moment of silence for how good this looked…

I like cake.

and then… AHhHhhh it was time for the big show.

and we couldn’t stop smiling and laughing. My dad and I walked down as slowly as we could, but it was weird when all eyes are on you!

and then 6 minutes later, we kissed! Nothing too naughty but suddenly I had a husband.

Really, 6 minutes! No prayers, no god stuff, no poems, no candles, no sand stuff. Just the important stuff.

Then we felt pretty awesome.

Then, the hugging began. There was a lot of hugging…

Justin was wearing a ring. I think thats my favorite part of going to weddings – seeing the boys wear the rings. And it’s all weird for them cause they don’t wear rings, and suddenly – they do!

And we took care of some legal stuff out back…

and as you can see, i was apparently a little bored at this part. But can you blame me? There was all this going on…

There was some special dancing….

and then some memorable toasts.

My sisters was touching because i knew how she struggled to write something. She was nervous. I think here i’m laughing at her talking about “Quality Care Hotel” from the make believe days. That was a fun game.

My friend Erica – well she wasnt shy at all. In fact, i think she enjoyed giving the toast as much as I enjoyed hearing it.

Rae & Erica’s toast was impressive!

They played the OSU fight song in the speech… clever little monkeys.08h562

During the toasts, the lighting was amazing! Again, the location & scenery was awesome. Look how beautiful everyone looks…

My dads toast was awesome too. Mostly because everyone knows him as such a jokester. Well, he went all heart and said some really special heartfelt things about Justin and I. I almost lost it.

Then… CAKE!  Ya know, what you don’t realize is that no one ever teachers you how to do the cake cutting thing. So we stood up there with a knife in our hand, with 200 people watching…. and were like Uhh.. okay i guess we’ll just fake this.

But not to fear, everyone got their cake…

So pretty much after that we had sealed the deal… Vows ?  Check. Special Dances?  Check. Toasts?  Check. Cake? Check! What was left but to party down!!!

Oh wait! There was also this….I wont go into details but you get the gist.

Again, can I say more about the scenery? Beautiful.

Awww… what an amazing day! All our family and fabulous friends. I could not have asked for a better day.

And now, here I am. One year later! Still Married. Still Happy. Still Thankful. 365 days done, Many MANY more to go!

Hello Fans

I just wanted to give a shout out to my 9 viewers today and 12 yesterday! WOW, that’s a record people!

last night we did another 7 miles on the bike. I found that raising my seat up helped greatly… however, still tired, still out of shape. Boo. Although, we do still look cute in our helmets.

Ready to roll...

Ready to roll...

I just checked out the route map. Um, I think we’re insane. At this point, I’m very content to just ride the “family bridge pedal” at 14 miles. We shall see! I really think the St Johns bridge route could be the death of me.

Bridge Pedal Update

This will be us on race day!

This will be us on race day!

Last night I put that new helmet to good use! Justin, Erin & I went on a bikeride around the area. We made a stop at the Goodwill and quickly pursued the aisles of junk (while wearing our helmets of course) while Justin lovingly watched the bikes outside.

I have to admit, it was a rough ride for me. It was fun, and i enjoyed ya know, actually feeling my muscles work. But I was tired! I don’t know if it was because i hadn’t slept well on Sunday night and then had a long day at work – but i couldn’t stop yawning. OH and probably the fact that I’m incredibly out of shape has something to do with it too.

This morning I awoke to a very sore butt! Why can’t they make mountain bike seats like cruiser bike seats!? I’ve got a big butt people – I need a little more padding. In total we only rode 8 miles. Kinda sad when you think we’re trying to get ready for 24 at the bridge pedal.

But besides a sore butt, i feel good and I’m looking forward to the next ride!

This weekend we want to try and do a real long one. Who’s up for a Saturday ride?

What’s Old is New Again

This past Saturday my mom convinced me to go to the Antique and collectible show with her. Its not that I have anything against shows like this. I’m a big fan of old stuff, but sometimes going places like this with my mom is a a little tiresome.  She tends to take way longer to look at things than I do. However, since i’ve really taken an interest in some mid century styles I figured it might be worth my while to go. I love finding ways to make vintage/retro chachkies part of my home décor.

All week my mom had been very clear that I had to get up early so she could be there on time. She was determined to get a parking spot at the expo center and have to ride the shuttle.Fine no big deal.

Well Friday night I stayed up a little too late and by the time I went to bed it was around 1:30 am. I set my alarm for 7am, and promptly fell asleep. In a daze I woke in the morning, starred at the clock and realized I was already 20 minutes behind schedule!

CRAP, my mom was going to freak if I wasn’t ready by 8am.

But why didn’t my alarm go off? Weird! After showering I was a little more lucid and finished getting ready. As I was curling my hair and finishing my face, I went out into the bedroom to check the time. Had I made it in time?

I blinked, once, twice…7:01. 7:01. Wtf?   Suddenly I realized what had happened…. I had gotten up an earlier than I was supposed to!

Grrr… So, what else did I do but get right back into bed, fully dressed.

At 8:00 on the dot my phone rang and woke me up. It was my mom “are you up?” Heck yes I was up… I had been up for an hour.
Well sort of.
Groggy, I met my mom in the driveway.  She was pretty amused by my story.
When we got to the Portland expo center, I realized I had no idea what I was in for. The doors opened at 9, it was 8:30 and the parking lot was already filled. We got a spot towards the back of the lot and headed towards the ticket booth.

What the heck? This was NUTS. Huge lines wound from the entrance of the expo center back through the parking lot. My mom just kept saying “See, Heidi, I told you!”

After we got tickets and got a spot in line I started checking things out. Tents, tents and more tents were outside. Apparently the summer show is twice as big because they have an outdoor section. I began to get a little excited. Maybe I’d find something awesome!?

Seriously? Already... it's barely 8:30

Seriously? Already... it's barely 8:30

I cannot emphasize enough how big this thing was…. It took us forever just to get through the outdoor section. We spent more time on some booths than others, but still. The place was huge. My mom and I had some great laughs at some of the stuff. We saw lots of stuff that reminded me of my grandpa (a notorious packrat) and also a lot of random toys & misc items from my own childhood.

I had my eyes peeled for mid century stuff, a coffee table for my living room, old room dividers for my spare room (from this post on Design*Sponge) and art/prints for my house. Well I didn’t end up getting much, but had a lot of fun… here is some of what we did see.

Totally cute vintage patio set in mint condition.

$175 a chair and $750 for the table. YIKES.

Bertoia Chairs! $175 a chair and $750 for the table. YIKES.

We saw those sweet Bertoia chairs, but again I was reminded why I don’t think it’s all THAT wrong to buy knock off’s of this kinda stuff. First off, the condition – and secondly the price!! $175 bucks a chair and the table was $750. I’m not in the market for these style chairs anyway, but if I was I’m not embarrassed to admit I’d be more than willing to buy these at Overstock.

Row 1 of a billion.

I did pick up a vintage table cloth covered with pineapples and limes for $5. I also got this little telephone side table racky thing. As soon as I saw it I thought it was cute. I knew in the back of my mind I had seen one like it somewhere before, but i couldn’t place it. It only cost $10 so what the hey. When I got home I did some searching and figured out I had seen it on this blog.  According to Amber it’s apparently a 1951 Richard Galef telephone table. (?) I’m probably going to spray paint mine as it’s currently gold. It looks exactly like this:

Amber’s is black, which was my first instinct for color. But I was thinking – maybe go funky to match my office. Orange perhaps? Teal? I dunno. We’ll see…

Once inside I was already starting to fade. A quick pick me up with a soft pretzel and a diet coke, and we were back. Row after row after row of oldies but goodies.

Always on the hunt for the Thermos to match my metal disneyland lunch box.

Jesus head anyone? Could be yours for only $75

Towards the end of the afternoon we met up with Cheryl & Bernie. My BFF’s aunt & uncle who travel up to PDX for the show every year. They had a seriously classy looking booth full of genuine antique jewelry and house wares.  According to them it was so far a reeeally slow show.  So hopefully things picked up for them later in the day. That’s Cheryl in action above. She had some really cool jewelry. By the time we reached the final row of booths in the expo my feet were screaming and my shoulder was really tired of carrying my giant purse.  It was really nice when we reached the car & headed for home… However, what a fun day!

The show was super interesting and of course tons of good people watching was to be had. Let’s just say, there were more than a few good candidates for “What Not To Wear.” And seriously, what’s with the 80 year old people with their rolly walkers at the show?

Later in the day my dad gave me a really neato little gift. He had been out on a bike ride and came across a garage sale full of random old stuff. This was among one of treasures he picked up! How cute is that? I never find stuff with my name on it. We looked this up on the internet and it’s apparently some traveling doll kit from 1961.

All in all – great adventure at the collectible show and I will definitely be going back next year.
